Nectar Game Studios have decided to put their upcoming title, Project Resurgence, on Kickstarter.
Described on the Kickstarter page as “an episodic single-player computer RPG inspired by the classics of the late 90s”, the game will take you to the dark, fantastical post-apocalyptic world of Lumen, where nothing is safe and the rebuilding of the world is progressing slowly. You are challenged with navigating the world and “in this mysterious environment, there are no right or wrong answers—only actions and consequences.” Inspiration for the game is taken from titles as wide ranging as Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment and The Witcher.
You can create your own character through whom you will experience the world, taking part in detailed character interactions and detailed combat sequences where you will be able to take control of allies and choose between turn-based combat and real-time combat modes. Perhaps fighting isn’t always the solution though, and the game offers the chance to resolve many of your conflicts in a non-violent manner either through stealth or cunning in conversation. Each episode constitutes its own self-contained story, but also joins together into a larger overarching plot that binds each of the pieces together.
Nectar say they have opted for Kickstarter not just to raise funds for the game, but because they want to bring fans into the development process as much as possible, offering the alpha and beta testing versions of the game to those who are willing to back beyond a certain level and allowing those who are very keen on the project a view into the designer area of their forum. They also want to ensure that they have the creative freedom to carry out their ideas in the way that they want, and Kickstarter seems to be the best way to do that.
The RPG will be split in to five episodes, with the first estimated for release in Q1 2017. With 34 days remaining the project has so far raised $42, 352 of its $160,000 goal.
