The creator of the Prince of Persia franchise, Jordan Mechner, may well be actively working to revive the franchise, which has been seemingly dead since 2010.

In response to a tweet from a fan, who loves the franchise and lamented its long absence, Mechner responded that he was working on it, and was “doing [his] best to make it happen!”.

Ubisoft still owns the publishing rights and has not made any statement that they intend to revive the franchise, but Mechner, who created the original 1989 game and worked on the franchise up until the 2003 reboot, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, seems dedicated to making it happen. Still, Ubisoft may be willing to revisit the franchise, as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was recently made backwards compatible with the Xbox One. While this gesture may seem small, it may be part of a larger picture, as Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat told IGN during last year’s E3 that he was open to someone coming in with a big idea to revitalise an old franchise. However, the publisher’s response to the fan’s tweet was dismissive of the idea, so  how long it might be until the next game in the franchise remains a mystery.
