Recent preview builds of CD Projekt Red’s open world RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, run at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One, VG24/7 reports.
GameStar, a German site, broke the news, testing PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions of the game at a preview event, saying: (Translated literally from German)
“In the duel console PlayStation 4, meanwhile, has clearly ahead of the graph. Although the textures are a bit more blurred than “high” PC details that falls within the normal TV-distance but hardly noticeable. In addition, the witcher adventure runs on the PS4 in 1080p – but only at 30 frames per second, which did not bother us.
“On the Xbox One Geralt goes also with 30 fps on monster hunt, but only in 900p, the textures also seen slightly more washed out than on the PS4. However, polishes CD Projekt own words yet on the Xbox version, maybe you can still screw up to 1080p, but you would not promise anything. Stand now is the PS4 image the sharper and stronger color.”
Whether this will make a noticeable difference between the final versions remains to be seen, with new footage on all platforms looking great. And as Michael Graf from GameStar mentions, there’s still time for the Xbox to be brought up to spec before May when the game launches.
It will be interesting to compare platforms upon release, with PC boasting exclusive graphical features like NVIDIA HairWorks. But ultimately, will it really matter if The Witcher 3 can deliver on the expansive gameplay shown in the previews?
