MediEvil Remake PlayStation

PlayStation has revealed some information about the PlayStation 4’s past and upcoming resurrections in a post to its blog.

These resurrections include Crash Bandicoot, MediEvil, Resident Evil, and Spyro the Dragon. The post details commentary provided by the producers and designers from these gaming franchises:

  • Bobby Hopper, associate producer at Other Ocean Interactive (MediEvil)
  • Tsuyoshi Kanda, producer at Capcom (Resident Evil 2)
  • Kyle Martin, producer at Vicarious Visions (Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy)
  • Jan Stec, senior technical designer at Toys for Bob (Spyro Reignited Trilogy)

The blog post gives some great insight into the revival process for each of these titles. For example, Hopper says the following about the upcoming MediEvil remake:

“To keep this remake as true to the original as possible, our first step was to extract all the level geometry from the original game and then place it into the new engine to serve as our map for the placement of every tree, building, wall, etc. […] we then review each piece of low-resolution PS1 art, compare it to the PS1 concept art we have, and then develop our own concepts to update the visuals, all while keeping an eye on matching the tone of the original game.”

For readers interested in learning about how these classic PlayStation games came back to life, do not give the blog post a miss.
