Sumo Digital, the studio behind such titles as LittleBigPlanet 3 and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, has announced their first original IP, Snake Pass.

The brainchild of Seb Liese, an active member of the LittleBigPlanet community before joining the studio, and winner of the studio’s first Game Jam last year, the game is a “physical action-puzzle game.” Complete with real snake physics, players will control the titular reptile as they travel through a variety of evermore challenging worlds.

With such a diverse portfolio under its belt, Sumo seems to be embracing the imaginative title and allowing its developers to go all in with this unique take on the platforming and puzzle genres. If the screenshots and footage released so far are any indication, the vibrant art style and cartoonish protagonist look to make for a fun game that will no doubt be frustrating at times but will reward players with its upbeat soundtrack and delightful worlds.

The ability to slither, coil, and otherwise traverse the environments as a snake realistically would already promise something other games do not. Throw in obstacles and objectives, as well as collectibles, and Snake Pass is looking to offer players a refreshing new way to engage with a genre constantly being added to by developers big and small.

With this year already seeing the charming Unravel from Coldwood Interactive, as well as the more sinister Inside from Playdead, Snake Pass looks like it could sneak right in and find a place for itself in what appears to be an exciting and fun new title from a well-established studio.
