Crackdown 3’s release is lurking ever-closer, and the open-world action-adventure video game will officially be coming to PC thanks to Play Anywhere.
While no specific release date for Crackdown 3 has been announced, Reagent Games—the lead developer—has stated the game will launch sometime in 2017. The title was originally supposed to be released in Summer 2016 exclusively for Xbox One, but the developer ultimately decided to push the game back to 2017 due to the project’s size. However, despite Crackdown 3 having no specific release date, gamers can still pre-order the game on Amazon and Game.
Crackdown 3 takes place seven years after the game’s predecessor, Crackdown 2. Crackdown 3 uses Unreal Engine 4 and emphasizes destruction on a massive scale, with players supposedly able to destroy everything in the game.
The Crackdown series was created by David Jones, with every installment being developed by different companies. However, each game has been consistently published by Microsoft Studios. The series takes place in a futuristic dystopian city. A secret organization known as the Agency controls the city using super soldiers, called Agents, to combat threats to the city. Threats include a variety of criminal syndicates, a terrorist group called the Cell, and zombie-like monsters known as Freaks.
Reagent Games is an independent British video game developer headed by David Jones, the aforementioned creator of the Crackdown series. The company is coordinating with Microsoft Studios to develop and publish Crackdown 3. Other developers assisting in Crackdown 3’s production are Sumo Digital——another independent British video game developer—and Cloudgine—a Scottish technology provider.
