Bayonetta 3 PlatinumGames

Platinum Games is “constantly talking about” how best to continue the Bayonetta series, according to series producer Atsushi Inaba.

Speaking to SourceGaming at the recent BitSummit conference, Inaba confirmed that he would “would like to make Bayonetta 3,” and that the project has been discussed internally as a possibility. Indeed, Inaba said that the team members are “talking within the company even now about what to do.”

Despite the apparent positivity in these words, they do not confirm that Bayonetta 3 will happen, as the IP rights to series reside with Sega, and the publisher would first have to agree to move forward with any such project.

However, Inaba did hint that the company has discussed changing the main protagonist for a future entry, saying “there’s plenty of precedent for changing protagonists, and so that is something we discuss – do we want to keep the same one, have a different one, add new ones – but that’s certainly not anything I can say for sure at this point.”

Although the first Bayonetta was a multiplatform project (recently re-released on PC via Steam), the second game was a WiiU exclusive, with Nintendo taking over publishing duties from Sega and putting the series in a very peculiar position. Nevertheless, both the series and the character remain very popular and a third entry, no matter what platforms the game lands on, would likely be well-received by the gaming community.
