Obsidian has released a new trailer for its upcoming RPG Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, detailing an array of environments, ship customisation, character creation, and a badass dragon (along with the usual array of skeletons, exotic birds, werewolves, et al).
The character creator appears to be even more detailed than that included in the original Pillars of Eternity, which is impressive given the size and scope of the series’s debut. Players can import their characters and save from the original Pillars of Eternity if they wish, but the character creator looks too good to pass up.
Perhaps the most refreshing part of the trailer is the addition of ship customisation, allowing players to live out all of their nautical and Moby Dick-inspired fantasies at will.
The sequel appears to be lending itself to more exotic locales and environments than the previous entry in the series, with the trailer focusing on the leafy flora of treasure-laden islands and the disorientating sandstorms of deserts. Enemy types, too, have become more colourful, with the new footage focusing on foe that vary from a technicolor flaming bird to seafaring skeletons.
Towards the end of the trailer, a dragon mirrors the hulking bosses of the first game, but Deadfire has definitely upped the ante in that department.
Deadfire releases on PC on May 8, after it was recently delayed by a month to give the project a little more polish.
