Phoenix Point

Phoenix Point, the global turn-based strategy title from X-COM creator Julian Gollop and his studio Snapshot Games, has a backer build releasing on April 30.

The build is arriving a month later than planned. However, the developer, in lieu of the planned release, shared some more details regarding the game’s mutation system and enemy design.

One of the cornerstones of Phoenix Point‘s procedural design is the mutation system, which promises to provide depth to combat encounters by allowing enemies to change their mechanics, difficulty, and aesthetic organically.

Each enemy will have a variety of limbs that can be used in different combinations, with each part allowing for new abilities and different statistical modifiers such as armour and speed. Further details, including concept art of some of the enemies from the game, can be found on the game’s official website.

The project raised over USD$ 700,000 at the crowdfunding campaign’s conclusion in June 2017, meeting one of the game’s stretch goals. Recently, Gollop announced that Phoenix Point will include a day/night cycle, which promises further depth for the title’s already impressive gameplay options.

Phoenix Point is expected to launch in late 2018 on PC, Mac, and Linux.
