A new gameplay trailer was released for the long awaited addition to the Persona series, which comes included with a release date for Japan. September 15th, 2016 to be exact.

As of yet, perhaps due to the trailer being released during a Japanese event, there is no announcement of an NA, EU or AU release date. While the release date is likely just pending for NA, the EU and AU, t actual release is still up in the air since NIS announced they’ll no longer be publishing Atlas titles for those regions. While there’s potential for a delay, it would be personally surprising if it never saw a release in those regions.

It seems, looking at the trailer, that the game will have more of a bold appearance compared to prior titles. This is especially as in Persona 3 and 4 (playing the PSP and Golden editions), the dungeons would remain static while the trailer suggests a more active animation. In addition, the combat menus look stylised, the bosses more grandiose and perhaps more characterization of the protagonist (rather than the usual tabula rasa style). Another interesting part of the trailer is a reappearance of a certain character which… Well… I’ll leave for you to see for yourself at the end of the trailer.

I’m honestly excited by the trailer, although then again I was excited anyway. Persona 3 and 4 were both games I enjoyed thoroughly on my Vita, being two of my favourite games on the handheld device, even if I faltered at the last hurdle in 3 while completing 4. So I would have been surprised if 5 suddenly had a worse quality.

So far, it does not look the case at all; in fact it potentially looks even better. The only aspect I’m not too thrilled at is the current lack of a Vita release, but that’s more a statement of preferring to play RPGs on-the-go rather than in front of a TV. For Persona, I don’t mind gluing myself to the front of my PS4 for a week or two.

Persona 5 will be released on the PS4 and PS3.
