Lucas Pope, developer of indie darling Papers, Please has announced his next project, Return of the Obra Dinn.

As described in a forum post on TIGForums, the game will be a first person mystery game set in 1808, where the player investigates a ship that disappeared six years prior, and has suddenly returned.

Pope went on to say that he’s “…hoping to capture a compelling mystery with suspense and twists in the limited space of an old merchant sailing ship. It won’t be the typical ‘collect items and look for clues’ structure.” There will also be a “slightly cool gameplay hook”, and the game’s art style is shared with 1-bit Mac Plus graphics.

Return of the Obra Dinn has no release date, but Pope is estimating half a year of dev-work before its release.
