An upgrade of the first game in the NieR series has been announced.
According to Square Enix, the game is neither a remaster nor a remake, but rather an upgraded version of the game called NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139. ToyLogic developer Takahira Taura is collaborating with director Yoko Taro, composer Keiichi Okabe, and producer Yosuke Saito. This upgraded game will be based off NieR Replicant, the Japanese PlayStation 3 version of the game, rather than the Japanese Xbox 360 and Western versions, NieR Gestalt.
Additionally, the game will be fully voiced; all voiceovers, as well as background music, will be rerecorded. Other features will be included, such as new characters and songs. New endings have also been hinted at. The Japanese voice actors who voiced 2B and 9S in NieR: Automata, Yui Ishikawa and Natsuki Hanae, respectively, will have a small role in the game.
No release date has been confirmed, but Square Enix hopes that the game will release during the game’s 10th anniversary for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
