As I mentioned last week, I said I might have good news for you soon…and I’m happy to say that today is that day.
Over the past few weeks I have been speaking with our current advertiser, Enthusiast Gaming, about potentially keeping the site online instead of having to shut it down entirely. Luckily, we have reached an agreement that allows me to move on and start my new adventure, while also making sure that OnlySP continues on for the fans that have built it up over the years.
Now, what does this new partnership mean? Essentially, Enthusiast will own the site, but aside from that there will be no significant changes to the operations of the site. As you know, I will be stepping away from the site to go start my new adventure, and some of our staff are joining me on this new venture as well. That list includes James Billcliffe, Joanna Nelius, Michael Soriano and Sep Gohardani. It will be up to their discretion if they continue posting here or not.
Another significant change that will be coming to OnlySP is our new Editor in Chief. If you have been following the site from the very beginning, you might remember Damien Lawardorn. He did the fantastic Crafting A Narrative series, among other things.
Damien has worked with me since the very beginning when I was working on my very first gaming outlet, TitanReviews. He was there for Velocity Gamer, and the initial days of OnlySP before he had to step away to focus on his schooling. Now that he’s set to complete his degree, he’s ready to return back to OnlySP. When he saw the announcement that I was ceasing operations of the site, he immediately emailed me and stepped up to take over the site, if I would allow it.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had Damien working on a revitalization plan for OnlySP to which he delivered to me last night. After looking it over, I can confidently say that Damien has the know-how and the will to revitalize OnlySP over the next year. He’s also one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
I plan to continue my involvement with OnlySP through an advisory role to make sure that the vision of the site and its content stays true to what you have come to expect over the years. I’ll also be working with Damien behind the scenes as he transitions into the role of Editor in Chief to make sure he knows all the ins and outs of OnlySP as he works to move the site forward. If I have the time, I may even post an article here or there.
OnlySP is my brainchild and I of course didn’t want the site to just disappear forever. I honestly had no idea I’d be able to sell the site this quickly, so be sure to thank Enthusiast Gaming for helping to keep the dream of a single player gaming focused site alive. Hopefully in the future, when school and other projects aren’t bogging me down, I will have time to do both my new project and OnlySP. My schedule is about to get even busier though as I was just elected President of my fraternity chapter here at Northwest.
Deciding to step away from the site is one of the hardest decisions I’ve made so far in my life, and of course, when I see new single player games being announced, it’s almost my instinct now to get online and tell you about them…which I still plan to do. However, I have full confidence that Damien and his team will continue on the dream that we started. With your support, OnlySP has a bright future ahead of it.
Thank you all so much for showing your support for the site and your will to keep it alive. I’d also like to thank you for supporting me on my decision and your interest in my next project. It’s incredibly humbling to see that I have actually made an impact on a lot of people in the gaming community, and I hope to continue doing that with my new project. Of course, none of that would have been possible without all the great people that have helped me along the way. So, thank you.
