First of all, Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom’s out there today! Hope everyone’s enjoying their day today and maybe even teaching your mother a new video game trick or two ;) It’s pretty stormy here in Nebraska so I’ve just been chilling out and watching some House of Cards with my mother.
Secondly, welcome back to another Week in Review. Continuing the trend we started a few weeks back, every Week in Review will feature a new giveaway at the end of the post. If you’d like to enter in the giveaway, you’ll need to leave your own week in review in the comments section. With that said, lets get started.
OnlySP Status Update
So it has been a pretty busy week here at OnlySP. We’ve had quite a bit of news to cover this past week, our featured interview series has returned and our media channel has been pumping out new content just about every day. Our First Look video series has really started off strong as we’ve been acquiring review copies much earlier than we used to, which allows us to bring you video content earlier than we have before.
We’ve just surpassed 900 subscribers on the channel this weekend and also brought you a First Look Preview of Rebel Galaxy from Double Damage Games. This week, we’ll have a whole new interview feature to share with you as we bring you some of the very first details on DreamWave Games’, Absention, a survival horror game that will have you reliving the same night over and over again you try to solve the mystery put before you.
We have a TON of interviews lined up for you between now and E3, so stay tuned to OnlySP. We’ll be revealing a bunch of details regarding a bunch of upcoming video games that you may or may not have heard about yet. It’d be very helpful to us if you would be kind enough to share these interviews around when we post them as James and the other writers put a lot of work into them. It’s a shame the bigger sites don’t see what we post here that often as I do think our interviews are some of the best around, with tons of detail in them.
I’ve also been teasing a big announcement for May 25th on OnlySP. The announcement isn’t Mafia 3 (sorry Leon!), but something related to the site. I can’t share anymore details regarding that announcement, so you’ll just have to wait and see on the 25th. I’ve been putting a lot of work into preparing this, so as the date nears we’re getting pretty excited to share it with you.
So my summer break has officially started and pretty much all of my time has been spent working on the site. I’m pretty much working full time on the site at the moment and doing the best I can to bring you up to the minute news, as well as increase my output with others form of writing such as editorials and reviews.
Unfortunately, it has become increasingly more difficult to drive traffic to OnlySP. Sources that used to bring us higher amounts of traffic like N4G and Reddit have essentially become useless to us. N4G has become driven by a singular site, and I’m sure the majority of you know which site that is. The way N4G works is articles gain heat, and once they reach 50 degrees they hit the front page and that’s where the traffic comes from. For whatever reason, it seems like our news posts hardly ever hit 50 degrees on there anymore, most likely because I don’t over sensationalize 90% of my titles as I prefer the informative route instead of misleading readers.
Right now, I’d say 95% of our traffic is strictly coming from Google, so working on SEO is a top priority here right now. But, as I mentioned in the OnlySP Status Update, it’d be very helpful to have more of you sharing our content across Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, Facebook, Flipboard and Twitter. The more you share our content, the more OnlySP continues to grow which is beneficial to everyone.
As for what I’ve been playing this past week, well… I’ve kinda been playing a lot of Insurgency…a multiplayer FPS. I’ll tell you one thing, that game is seriously intense and one of the more fun online multiplayer shooters I’ve played in quite a while. There’s a pretty steep learning curve to the game, but taking down another player in that game is incredibly satisfying. There’s no hit markers, and barely even any indication when you take someone down, so it’s hard to actually tell most of the time when you even do get a takedown until you get your score sheet at the end of the match. I also had time to play through Wolfenstein: The Old Blood as well as begin a new play through Wolfenstein: The New Order with one of my roommates. I’m taking a little more time this time around to learn more about the backstory as I don’t feel I learned enough my first go around.
There’s another week to go before The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the wait isn’t getting any easier. I’m really excited for OnlySP’s coverage of the game and I think you should be as well. The giveaway below features Resident Evil Revelations 2, which includes all released episodes. You must comment with your own week in review to be eligible to win.
