We’re sticking with this one, I promise.
Yes, we’ve once again updated our theme here at OnlySP and once again you’ll have to let me explain. Over the course of this year I’ve really been trying to find a theme that accommodates our needs. We’re a feature focused site now, and the last theme was meant to accomplish what we needed in a stylistic format. However, over time it came to my attention that many of the features that came with the theme weren’t working.
We were supposed to have nice covers for our feature articles, more customization in the actual posts and so on. A lot of those features didn’t work with the theme, and the author of the theme repeatedly ignored my requests for help or fixes. I’ve been working to fix those issues myself over the past few months, and unfortunately could not find a fix. Remember when the site posted all those random and weird articles about two months ago? Well, that was me trying to fix those problems.
So here we are now. With a new theme to boot and a much simpler one at that. Our articles are going back to being content focused first as we can’t afford to spend too much time formatting them to make them look super stylish. We might as well move to the magazine format if we’re going to spend that much time focusing on our looks. Our articles have always had a professional look to them and will continue to look that way, no worries there.
This theme, however, does give us the option for just under 10 different post formats with some very nice looking feature images. You can see the first post utilizing one of those effects here. We finally have cover photos for our features, which helps to really make them stand out. Our front page also includes more content than we’ve ever included before, and while it may take some time to get used to having a tad more cluttered home screen, I think you’ll appreciate having more content to sift through front and center.
Other than that, there’s some added ad space for us to hopefully try and increase our ad revenue and traffic so we can keep going next year. I’ll still be tweaking some things over the next couple weeks and moving things around, but the new look is functional and ready for your reading eyes. Some articles will need some fixing that used the different editor we had on the old theme, so those will be updated over the next couple weeks.
In the meantime, let us know what you think of the theme and if you have any questions, comments or concerns please comment below. Thanks everyone!
