Infinite Fall announced on Twitter today that Night in the Woods will be released this Fall. This is a long-awaited announcement for fans and backers who have been following their project since 2013, which was 400% funded on Kickstarer within 30 days.
Night in the Woods is a 2D story-focused adventure/exploration game that follows Mae Borowski during her return home after dropping out of college. She has a history of anger-issues and lacks direction in life, wanting nothing more than to wreak mayhem with her friends in their old mining town. But she finds that nothing is as she left it. Her friends have not only changed, but Mae is experiencing some unusual, paranormal changes herself–changes that give her a mysterious ability to access a part of town she never knew existed. And there is something sinister lurking in the forest.
Their game reads like a coming-of-age tale–what do we do when we see the world changing around us, but have not figured out when or how to move on? How do we know when to lets things go and when to fight against the change? With their focus on exploration, story, and character, the game sets up a parallel to make us analyze changes in our own lives along with the protagonist.
