GameInformer dropped big news today as they unveiled their May cover. Warner Bros. Games Montreal has been working on the next console iteration of the Batman: Arkham series. Their title, Batman: Arkham Origins.

Set prior to the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Origins focuses on a less experienced Batman whom is encountering many of his iconic foes for the first time. I suppose that’s one way to get around Arkham City’s some-what tragic ending.

The game is being developed in the same style as the previous two entries. Warner Bros. Games Montreal will be utilizing the same modified Unreal engine that Rocksteady has been for their Batman titles. It’s still unknown what Rocksteady is currently working on. Feel free to speculate below as to whether it’s a finale to their own trilogy for the Caped Crusader.

In the trailer that we’ve embedded below, the developers give brief insight as to what their game is about:

“We are not telling the story of Batman’s beginning. We are not telling the story of the beginning of Arkham Asylum. But this is the story of the first time Batman meets certain characters that are very important to him and defines their relationships.”

They then continued with what should sum up the game in general:

“We have eight of the best assassin’s in the world who have come together to Gotham City for one night, Christmas Eve of all nights, to kill the Bat.”

The game is going to set in “the streets of Gotham City”, which should be refreshing and fun.

In addition to the reveal we were also generously given a release date and the consoles Origins will be available on. Batman’s prequel will be hitting the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC on October 25, 2013. Check out the trailer just below, as well as the full cover.
