Cyan, Inc. has released some new information for their successfully-Kickstarted project, Obduction.

For those of you not in the know, Obduction is a new first-person adventure from the creators of Myst and Riven, two of the most transformative games of the 90’s, and this new title is said to “resurrect that incredible feeling of suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a new world to explore, discover, solve, and become part of.”

Obduction will be built with the same framework that made Cyan’s earlier games such a wonderful experience: stunning landscapes, deep storyline, engaging characters, dramatic soundscapes, and challenging yet intuitive puzzles. Obduction is an entirely new property,delivered using one of the most powerful game development technologies available today. Obduction is an adventure game for the new millennium that stays true to the concepts that made the genre great.

The project was funded by over 22,000 people who raised $1.3 million (their goal was $1.1 million) to bring it to life.

Cyan, In. released an update to the project late last week. The update can be read here but the jist is that a new internal build has been completed for testing, in which nearly every one of the worlds in the game is at a “decent level of finish.”

Perhaps we should define “decent level of finish” so that no one gets too excited. All of our worlds now have most of their structures, terrain, artifacts, and interaction beyond “block world” and “grey world.” Almost everything has been modeled and textured to a sweet level, and they are playable, for the most part.

The post goes on to state that there’s still a lot of little things to do, “small areas that need some modeling or texturing,” for example, as well as some of the flavor items like journals, notes, books, and other clues (along with the necessary translations). And, of course, love. Which is the main ingredient to any fine dish. In this case, however, love means polish, and like with any game, there’ll need to be a lot of that even after a majority of the work is done.
