Players will step into history—at least briefly—in ‘Broken Toys’, the third episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, if the game’s new trailer is any indication.
The new footage (embedded below) provides momentary glimpses of Lee, the first season’s protagonist, and a younger version of Clementine, but offers no real indication of how these flashback appearances will be integrated into the present-day story.
Aside from this enticing piece of fan service, the trailer promises the return of the harrowing scenes and themes that the series has become synonymous with over the years. The newest episode continues where the previous left off, with Clementine preparing to save the people that she has befriended across the two epsiodes thus far.
The trailer also reveals the episode’s release date of January 15 on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
Following the closure of Telltale Games last year, many fans feared that The Walking Dead would never see its conclusion, but Skybound Games swooped in to ensure the fate of the series. ‘Broken Toys’ is the first episode to be developed under the new custodianship. Skybound is also set to produce the final entry in the long-running series, ‘Take Us Back’, and release it at some point later this year.
Telltale’s The Walking Dead was recently recognised as #19 of OnlySP’s 50 Favourite Games.
