steamworkshop_webupload_previewfile_143803558_previewFirst Person Survival Horror games have been ascending in popularity over the past couple of years. Games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Slender and the recently released Slender: The Arrival have risen to the top of “Games I’d rather not play in the dark” lists.

From the folks at SKS Games, enter The Forest as the lone survivor of a plane crash on an island. Naturally in these scenarios, you’re forced to scavenge from your surroundings and make camp – Bear Grylls style.

The game stresses an immersive and alive world with caves and tides complete with a day/night cycle for those looking to roast marshmallows and point out constellations by the warm glow of the campfire.

That is, if there weren’t cannibalistic mutants looking for a piece of your raw hide. To defend your camp, the player can employ traps and defenses to survive the night with a crafting system for weapons and tools to boot. And the player may make use of defending their positions or adopting a more aggressive/combat oriented mindset, at your own risk of course.

The Forest is coming to PC and Oculus Rift with an Alpha Version coming this year.

  1. I was looking at the cool survival component with the green placement thing and was like “cool”. I noticed how nice the graphics were then I saw that horrible horrible thing oh god so terrible. Looks sweet. Also liked the ending title slide, sleek.
