Frictional Games have announced their new Sci-fi, horror game, SOMA, is in beta and not far away from release.

The highly anticipated new Sci-fi, horror game, SOMA, from the developers who created the infamous Amnesia horror series, is now in beta, and not far away from release.

In a previous article we reported from Frictional Games that the development for SOMA was coming along nicely, and the internal beta was about to finish.

Now, after creating a build which contains all the features and game mechanics for the game, the developers are now focusing on fine tuning and polishing off the final build.

“There are still a few bits of art, a few sounds etc. missing, but the game is pretty much complete content-wise.In its current state, all of the game’s big problems have been solved, so what’s left is to make sure that what’s there is as good as it possibly can be. Adding effects, improving the art, ensuring stability, making it more intuitive and so on.”

SOMA, is a Sci-Fi horror game, which is set at a remote research facility where strange things have started happening, including robots mimicking human traits, and alien activity.

Below is a new screenshot and concept art to accompany this announcement, and from images I’ve seen so far, it reminds me a lot of Alien Isolation, in regards to the eerie and desolate feel the images show.

SOMA is set to be released on PS4 and PC, sometime in 2015.
