In an interview for the October issue of Game Informer, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies has said that Rockstar hopes Grand Theft Auto Online will “create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we’ve done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them,” and that Rockstar have managed to “achieve something very close to our dream.”
Benzies also noted that GTA Online has been an idea since Grand Theft Auto 3 because they wanted “the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players,” and they wanted “a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over.”
Grand Theft Auto Online was revealed to have over 500 missions, all of which take place before the events of the single player story. Most mission types from single player will be in the online portion of the game, including heists, missions, robberies, sports, and base jumping.
The point of the game will be to gain as much money as possible and buy assets like garages for sports cars and apartments. You can also hack another player to steal their money, although they can put a bounty on you for revenge.
Grand Theft Auto V will be released on September 17 with Grand Theft Auto Online launching on October 1.
