Ghost of a Tale vignette

Since its successful crowdfunding in 2013, the beautiful and macabre independent title Ghost of a Tale has earned a place on many single player fans’ radars for its The Legend of Zelda-inspired mechanics and Disney-inspired medieval fantasy setting.

This week, lead developer Lionel “Seith” Gallat detailed the team’s goal of having a beta ready as soon as possible with brand new videos of the in-game graphics.

Ghost of a Tale follows a courageous mouse minstrel named Tilo, who escapes from an army of rats only to begin a dangerous quest through dungeons and over a beautiful, though treacherous, landscape. The long-in-development game has recently hit several milestones and was headed for a pre-release beta at the end of last year.

In August 2015, Seith also tentatively suggested using the Xbox One early-access program, although since then the beta has been delayed and will now see release sometime before the full game in 2016.

Invitational or open betas are more and more important in the indie game sphere, even for single player titles, as small developers cannot always afford professional playtesting and QA. Working on a game like Ghost of a Tale is particularly difficult — in the highly competitive action-adventure genre, the quality of presentation and ease-of-use expected to stand out is incredibly high.

Ghost of a Tale looks set to meet and exceed those expectations as it heads for release on PC and Xbox One before the end of the year. For more information on Ghost of a Tale, keep following Only SP on Facebook and Twitter.
