New details about the gameplay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been revealed.

In Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference, the company showcased a gameplay trailer of Cloud and Barrett facing the Scorpion Sentinel boss.

According to Square Enix’s senior manager of product marketing, Final Fantasy VII Remake will have a hybrid real time and strategic command-based system.

Making a return are ATB bars, which fill over time and as well as with landing standard attacks. Using items depletes ATB, and Materia returns and can be used as ATB attacks.

Barrett has a similar ATB system, but different abilities. NPC party members will fight without the player’s intervention, but they will not use ATB attacks without direction through  either direct control or team commands. Abilities and spells can be bound to shortcuts for gamers with a preference for action-based gameplay.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release on March 3, 2020 first on the PlayStation 4.
