A proof of concept trailer is usually created at the beginning of the production of a game to act as a kind of guide and goal for the intended mechanics, style and tone. Because they’re rarely intended to see the light of day, they are almost always rendered in CG, allowing for a far better presentation than one can reasonably expect to find in the final production. Perhaps the most infamous example is the Killzone 2 trailer from E3 2005 that garnered a phenomenal amount of press attention. At this point, it’s understandable if you’re railing at getting a lesson when all you want is the trailer, but it’s always good to learn something.

Anyway, the reason for all of that is because Capcom has recently released a new trailer for the upcoming DmC Devil May Cry which, to us, looks far more akin to a proof of concept than something that we’d expect to see less than two weeks away from release. Nevertheless, it works as promotional material in giving a sense of what the game is about. It shows Dante moving through a crowd, before all hell breaks loose as Limbo City shows its demonic side. Besides this, it provides a look at the frenetic combat, Dante’s Devil Trigger and just a little bit of the cheekiness that looks set to permeate the entire game. Take a look below and tell us what you think:

The game launches for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on the 15th of January and the PC ten days later.
