Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign remaster has been rated for PlayStation 4.

The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) submitted its rating of ‘18’ for the Infinity-Ward-developed title early yesterday. The folks over at PC Gamer were lucky enough to grab a screenshot just before the post was removed.

PEGI, similarly to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), submits ratings for games long before release in order to guide buyers toward age-appropriate content. PEGI and the ESRB do not often make mistakes such as this, but the supposed leak lines up with an impending release.

For instance, a remaster of Modern Warfare 2’s campaign mode has been rumored since last year. Call of Duty titles also follow a strict release schedule which sees the development of each annual title rotated between three studios: Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch Studios, and, this year, Infinity Ward.

The last Call of Duty remaster, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, saw release when Infinity Ward shipped its last title, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Adding more fuel to the fire is the fact that the same studio was behind Modern Warfare 2‘s original release nearly 10 years ago.

In contrast, last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was multiplayer only. Activision recently confirmed that this year’s entry will see the return of single-player content and is “rooted in franchise history.”

Expectations are certainly high for 2019, but concrete details will not be shown for at least a few months.
