xCloud iOS

Microsoft’s game streaming service, xCloud, has arrived on iOS.

The xCloud beta is launching through Apple’s Testflight program, which is the company’s online service for over-the-air installation and testing of mobile applications. However, according to director of programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, in order to comply with the App Store’s policies, the beta’s preview experience on iOS might look and feel different from Android’s.

For iOS users, the preview is currently only available in the US, UK, and Canada, and does not include Xbox Console Streaming, whereas the Android beta preview did. Additionally, the only game that the iOS preview will start with is Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Up to 10,000 testers will be invited to the preview due to limited space, but Microsoft may cycle through registrants in order to best utilize the available audience so those who missed out might be able to join later. More information can be found on Hryb’s blog post.

Back in September 2019, Microsoft announced that the xCloud beta on Android would be receiving games such as Gears 5, Killer Instinct, and Halo 5: Guardians.
