Marvel's Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers developer Crystal Dynamics has stated that it is looking to take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s improved hardware.

Scott Amos, Vince Napoli, and Hannah MacLeod of Cyrstal Dynamics spoke with YouTube channel Hot 97. While Amos refused to confirm that the game will be released on next-generation systems, he stated that the developer is always looking to take advantage of the hardware that each console provides.

Game writer MacLeod also explained that Ms. Marvel was always planned to be the main protagonist. However, players will be able to unlock further heroes as they progress through the story. They can then use these in the main story but there will be no playable villains available.

Marvel’s Avengers is due to launch on May 15, 2020, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

First announced as The Avengers Project in January 2017Marvel’s Avengers was finally revealed at E3 in June 2019. Described as the “biggest thing we’ve ever done” by developer Crystal Dynamics, the game is viewed by the developer as a new type of live service experience expected to last multiple years, despite being fully playable in single-player. The game received a new 18-minute gameplay video last month, where some of the changes to the character models were revealed.

After seeing the game at E3 this year, OnlySP’s Michael Cripe felt that it “does not seem to pack the punch it so desperately needed for its debut,” despite having high hopes for the project before its reveal.

Note: This story originally stated that Marvel’s Avengers will take advantage of the PlayStation 5 hardware. It has been edited to remove such mention, as the game has not been confirmed for the platform.
