Thanks to an accidental early posting by another site, we get a look at the newest trailer for SquareEnix’s Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. We assume this is the one that they promised to reveal to the public at the upcoming Jump Festa expo in Japan. The trailer shows off a good deal of gameplay and indicates, at least according to the text at the beginning of the video, that this will be the end of the Final Fantasy XIII story arc.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII takes place several years after the conclusion of Final Fantasy XIII-2. As stated in the trailer, the world is set to end in 13 days and Lightning is tasked with saving it. Aside from the countdown towards impending destruction, the element of time plays a key role in the game as players will encounter different characters and events depending on the time of day and remaining time on the doomsday clock. Project Director Motomu Toriyama promises that it is “the most complete and polished game in the Final Fantasy series”. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is being developed for the XBox 360 and PS3. It does not have an official release date as of yet, though it is schedule to land on store shelves at some point next year. In the meantime, stay tuned to OnlySP for more news and make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-the-minute information.
Hey uh Will? Capcom doesn't make Final Fantasy.
Ha. I was writing this and the DmC post at the same time and got my publishers mixed up. Must have gotten distracted by that semi-obscene Capcom holiday card. Thanks for noticing. It's fixed.
