Continuing the Monster Rancher news from last month, Famitsu and Crunchyroll confirmed that a port of the first game in the series will launch on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices later this year.
At least one core feature of the original Monster Rancher will change on these new systems. Instead of unlocking new monsters usings CDs, players can search through a database of CD titles to create new monsters. While the details on this database are scant, it may feature albums such as Green Day’s Kerplunk and R.E.M.’s Monster, which contained unique monsters in the original game.
This port will also feature the ability to download monsters created by other players and a new local multiplayer mode.
No information is currently available about whether this port will see an international release or not.
Known as Monster Farmer in Japan, this fantasy life simulation series centers on breading and raising monsters for battle. The franchise celebrated its more than two-decades-old history with the launch of an official Twitter account earlier this year.
