Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment announced LEGO Dimensions today, a new entry in the LEGO game franchise which is set to take on the likes of Activision’s Skylanders and Disney’s Infinity series.

LEGO Dimensions, developed by TT Games, joins heroes from various LEGO games in a dimension hopping journey which aims to “break the rules of traditional gaming” and merge physical LEGO brick building with digital media to create an unique experience.

The game is set to feature characters from The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago and Back to the Future, with more expansions still to be announced.

LEGO Dimensions will come with an initial starter pack which will include a LEGO Toy Pad, which allows for the interactivity between physical bricks and the game, bricks to build objects and the LEGO Gateway and three LEGO figurines, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle, plus the LEGO Batmobile.

The starter pack is just the beginning as gamers will be able to customize their experience with expansion packs which will add other iconic characters, objects and mission based content to the game.

LEGO Dimensions is aiming to compete with other franchises such as Skylanders by Activision and Disney Infinity, who also use a system where physical toys interact with digital games to create unique experiences.

The Starter Pack is available for preorder now via Amazon, and is priced at 100 British pounds, or around $150 US dollars.

The LEGO video game series has been largely successful for Warner Bros, with numerous properties expanding the brand of recent, such as the LEGO Movie and adaptions of the Hobbit movies into LEGO games.
