Clarifying the news reported yesterday regarding Hideo Kojima’s desire to remake the original Metal Gear Solid, Kojima has today tweeted that that conclusion – which was widely reported – resulted from a mis-translation.

The first version of the translation from a round table discussion at E3 suggested that Kojima was currently looking for a developer to remake Metal Gear Solid on the Fox Engine. Kojima debunked that, stating

So it seems the translation barrier struck hard, with Kojima’s translator making an error in emphasis.

One developer has already offered their services for the Fox engine remake, though, with British studio Just Add Water penning an open letter to Kojima:

Dear Mr Kojima,

We read with great excitement on VG247 that you were looking for a studio to work with to develop a Metal Gear Solid remake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating.

We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons:

We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.
Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.
We really, really want to do it.

For evidence of our abilities, please check out not only the HD treatment of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, released on PlayStation3, VITA and PC, but the current re-creation of Abe’s Oddysee, titled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.

We eagerly await your response.

Love and cuddles,
The JAW Team.

With the Legacy Collection – which is set to include MGS 1-4, Peace Walker, and VR Missions – on the horizon for PS3, do we need another remake of MGS? You know what, I’m going to say yes, because The Twin Snakes was great.
