Good news for anyone who hungered for more slicing and dicing after finishing this week’s release of Metal Gear Rising: Revengenace. Series creator Hideo Kojima is interested in making a sequel, with notable action developer Platinum Games at the helm once again.
Speaking at a developer meeting that publication SPOnG attended, Kojima had the following to say regarding a second Rising game:
“As far as [Metal Gear] Rising 2 is concerned, I really do have that in my mind, and I want to make it,” Kojima explained. “And if we do make it, it would definitely be with Platinum. I don’t think anyone else could do it.
Honestly, I’ve been making games for over 25 years and the state that this game was in when it went to Platinum… was really a mess! The fact that they were able to pull it off is very impressive.
The one thing I think they can still improve on is their technological level. Their technology is not quite up to par, so maybe for the next project if we did something with them, we would maybe have them use the FOX engine. Or, perhaps their next generation engine.”
Kojima also stated that he considered Platinum to be a “world class studio,” indicating that he admires their talent and could have big collaborative plans with them in the future. Who knows; maybe he’ll even ask them for assistance with some of the future Solid titles, like the upcoming Ground Zeroes? This could be the beginning of beautiful friendship, indeed.
I recently reviewed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for our site and, despite a few niggling issues, found it to be a refreshingly fast and unique hack-and-slash title, awarding it an 8/10. You can read the review here.
