The most frequent questions surrounding Square-Enix’s announcement and release of the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX collection was why it only contained a selection of the series’ content and whether the remainder would get a similar treatment in the near future. The company has today confirmed (at Disney’s D23 event in Japan) that a follow-up bundle is currently in the works and is slated for a worldwide release next year, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

This second compilation will feature the previously Japanese-exclusive Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Birth By Sleep Final Mix, as well as remastered cinematics from the Nintendo DS exclusive Re: coded, making it a very similar release to its predecessor. There are currently no more specific release details, but it’s reasonable to expect it to sell at the same budget price as the previous collection.

These are definitely a good way to catch gamers up on the story of Kingdom Hearts prior to the release of the third main entry, currently slated to launch on the PS4 and XBO, but it is a little peculiar to note the lack of the most recent title, 3D: Dream Drop Distance, which is expected to lead directly into Kingdom Hearts III.
