Edge of Eternity gameplay

Midgar Studio’s JRPG Edge of Eternity can now be purchased and played through Steam’s Early Access program.

The studio released the game through Early Access on Steam today, with the promise of updates as development continues.

Midgar Studio announced Edge of Eternity alongside a Kickstarter campaign in February 2015 with a goal of $44,000. Smashing that target with a total of over $160,000, the studio continued to develop the game over the coming years, and it entered alpha in February 2017. Following several delays and occasional updates showcasing wildlife and combat, the game was finally announced to enter Early Access last month, later delayed until today.

The nine-person team promises to continue supporting the game throughout Early Access in the form of updates—larger updates of the game world and story chapters every three or four months, as well as smaller fixes in between—until the game’s full release, which Midgar hopes will be around 2020. Players have the opportunity to use some of the tools used to build the game using a powerful modkit.

Rhain discovered a long time ago that mixing one of his passions (video games) with the other (writing) might be a good idea, and now he’s been stuck in the industry for over six years with no means of escaping. His favourite games are those with deep and captivating narratives: while it would take far too long to list them all, some include L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption (and its sequel), Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Last of Us, and the Uncharted series.
