Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game director Stig Asmussen has promised that the combat system will offer depth and challenge.

Yesterday, EA published an extended gameplay video of the upcoming title. The new footage shows much more engaging combat scenarios like piloting an AT-AT, fighting giant spider creatures, and storm troopers. Whilst many fight scenes are not exactly new, the combat systems using the lightsaber and force powers look more energetic, considerate, and gripping.

Asmussen authored a blog post detailing the contents of the video and responding to fan criticism.

“It should not be mistaken that our combat is overpowered or easy. I promise there is considerable challenge and depth to be found within our combat system.”

In addition, he highlighted that the game is more challenging than it appears. He confirmed that Respawn is “feeling good” about the combat systems, but he also stressed that the developer is still continuing to work on the game.

“[Respawn is] continually play testing to ensure the game challenges even the most skilled player, while not alienating those who want to take a more casual approach. And, maybe most importantly, we also want to make sure that the game is delivering on the core promise of becoming a Jedi.”

Respawn decided to present 15 minutes of Jedi: Fallen Order footage in the initial demo instead of showing the extended version. Asmussen explained that this was because it was “a lot to describe in 15 minutes of gameplay,” and “getting hands on the full 25-minute experience is best to completely understand it”.

After the initial demo, the game received criticism regarding underwhelming combat, linear gameplay, and fears that it would struggle to stand out. However, fresh criticism has surfaced regarding the ‘Disney-fication’ over combat by only allowing selective dismemberment for droids and bugs.
