Obviously a new Resistance game won’t be announced at E3 this year, but in this author’s opinion it is about time for the franchise to make a return on the PS4.
Resistance 3 released all the way back in 2011, can you believe it has been that long already? The Resistance series was one of the PS3’s most consistent high profile releases, with each game in the trilogy receiving 90+ scores on IGN, 4-4.5 on Metacritic and is highly regarded as one of the PS3’s best franchises across the board.
I didn’t actually enjoy Resistance: Fall of Man or Resistance 2 that much due to the gunplay the games offered, but Resistance 3 was easily one of my favorite games to release on the PS3 and made me a fan of the franchise. It’s also a series that I think deserves another chance to wow gamers on the PS4 if Insomniac or another developer were to return to the franchise.
The Killzone series is good and Sony tried to make it the flagship FPS franchise for the PS4, but ultimately didn’t live up to the expectations set by its predecessors critically. Who knows, maybe Guerilla Game’s upcoming open world FPS, Horizon, will be the flagship FPS title for the PS4 .
Insomniac was obviously deep in development with Sunset Overdrive at the time, but I believe the Resistance franchise would have made a much better debut on the PS4 than Killzone: Shadowfall did and would have made the series one of Sony’s key franchises for years to come.
Unfortunately for us, Insomniac has no plans to develop Resistance 4 and the franchise is at the mercy of Sony. So if you want to see a new Resistance game for the PS4, we better start yelling at Sony to make it happen.
@carvsdabomb Sony would make that call. They own the IP. We don’t do remasters or ports. We have no plans to develop R4 either.
