Over the past few years many developers have adopted the Early Access model for their games. This allows the developer to release their game early, make money from it, and continue to develop the game with the money acquired by those looking to play it before it’s finished.

For some developers, this process has worked out very well and has allowed them to release finished products that have already been played (and tested) by thousands of people. Others have let their games sit in Early Access for month after month with minimal updates and unhappy customers.

Today, we are introducing a new feature on OnlySP called Early Access Checkups. Essentially, these articles will take a look at the current standing of popular Early Access titles and whether or not they’re living up to the promises set by their developers when they entered development.

We will provide hands-on impressions of the title in its current state and provide feedback on what we have played and then take a look back at the history of the title and its updates. Too often, Early Access titles are released, covered for a few weeks, and then forgotten about. Our goal is to make sure these titles are actively being watched as they progress through development.

For right now these features will be released on a weekly to bi-weekly basis depending on the author’s time with the game. We’ve got a few titles to check in on over the next few weeks so stay tuned to OnlySP on Facebook and Twitter for further entries in this new series of articles. If you have a title you specifically want us to check in, feel free to leave a comment below.

The first Early Access Checkup will be going live not long after this is published.
