The pre-alpha trailer for Insect Simulator shows off survival exploration gameplay, wild garden landscapes, and a fearsome playable Goliath Spider.
The Kickstarter-backed title is the first video game from the independent developer, Sarah Willsteed. The game is currently part of Steam’s Early Access programme, meaning that playing the game will enable exclusive benefits such as full experience and levelling systems, as well as hunting larger prey.
In addition, players’ choices will directly impact survival capabilities. For example, if players occupy a family home or tree stump they will face specific environmental challenges.
Willsteed has indicated that she plans to include additional features in the full version such as more reptiles, rodents, insects, and a weather system. However, she expressed that the implementation of these features could depend on feedback from Early Access.
According to the game’s Steam page, the title allows players to “view the world through the eyes of an insect of your choice. You will need to find your own way to survive and thrive through whatever conditions arise.”
The trailer (embedded below) shows two playable characters—the Fire Ant and the Goliath Bird Eating Spider—exploring open wilderness, hiding from predators, surviving harsh environments, and invading human homes.
Insect Simulator will be available on PC via Steam on December 2.
