A mysterious job listing by id Software in Germany has suggested that there may be a new Quake title coming at some point.

The job listing, as found by Gamnesia, asks for a Senior Physics Programmer to “…work as part of a development team on legendary id game properties like DOOM and QUAKE, developing physics and simulation technology for the game industry’s most advanced engine technology.”

A NeoGAF topic observes that usually id Software tends towards name-dropping their intellectual properties in the “about us” section rather than at the beginning of a job description. This seems to suggest that work is being done on the two properties.

Such a revisiting to the Quake series, which has been in stasis since 2007’s Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, wouldn’t be surprising considering the critical and commercial acclaim of the reboot of Doom. Although, before the hype-train derails itself and takes out a child, it should be considered that the job title also mentions Doom.

Perhaps with the reboot doing so well, they plan to continue on the Doom momentum before taking a look into Quake? Perhaps Quake will get a reboot? Perhaps it will be a sequel? It could even be a free-to-play title that inspires heavy sighs as it functions like a bizarre mix of Big Rigs Racing, Clive Barker’s Jericho and filling out a tax form.

I guess we’ll just have to wait for the announcement. Just know that something is coming.
