Anybody who liked Ninja Theory’s 2007 PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword were probably hoping for Sony’s recent game reveal to be a sequel to said game. Now, it’s been revealed that at one point Heavenly Sword 2 was being developed but was quickly cancelled.

Martin Binfield, an animator who has worked on many of Sony’s exclusive titles in the past, recently posted his resume online, which notes the existence of “Heavenly Sword 2 (PS3, Shelved)” back in 2008, in which he was to serve as Game Concept Designer and Character Animator. It’s likely that Ninja Theory cancelled the project in order to focus on Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, which released in 2010 to positive reviews. With the developer now working on the Devil May Cry reboot, it’s unlikely that they’ll return to the sequel any time soon.

No doubt our writer Damien Lawardorn will be crying manly tears tonight, as he was really enthusiastic about Sony’s reveal being Heavenly Sword 2. It’s not too late for a Kickstarter project, is it?

  1. :( You have to remind me of the hard times. I remember when the word leaked that it had been cancelled back in '09 or thereabouts. NT's kerfuffle with Sony was done and the internal Cambridge studio were working on it, but then they got assigned to Eyepet and the like. Oh, the pain…
