Headcannon, the developer behind Sonic Mania, has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming 2D, pixel-based side-scroller, Vertebreaker.
The campaign is seeking $275,000 in funding by November 30, and Headcannon has already laid out stretch goals up to $330,000—which includes a release on the Nintendo Switch.
Here is an overview of the game, as explained on its Kickstarter page:
“Take control of our bony hero in a crusade to crush the undead and look cool while doing it! In Vertebreaker, traversal is key as you slash, bash, and grapple your way through the most wicked 2D adventure yet! “What is ‘traversal’?” It’s slinging, swinging, and launching from floors, walls, and ceilings to propel yourself forward or even upward with serious speed!”
The game’s trailer and description make it clear that Vertebreaker‘s protagonist will make heavy use of a grappling hook.
For those on PC, Vertebreaker already has a quick gameplay demo available, located in links at the top of the campaign page. The page also introduces the development team and provides screenshots, sound clips, and a full breakdown of pledge rewards.
If funded, Vertebreaker will release on PC in Q3 2021.
