Halo 6

Halo 6 was notably absent from Microsoft’s E3 press conference, and the game’s developer has suggested that the title may not be unveiled until 2018.

In a post on Halo Waypoint, Jeff Easterling, the lead writer for series developer 343 Industries, emphasised that the team will not “be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time.” While some hopeful fans may have anticipated a reveal at either Gamescom or PAX West later this year, Easterling denied a presence at both events, and with no other major gaming conferences taking place throughout the remainder of the year, Halo 6 is unlikely to emerge before 2018.

Despite the news, Easterling was bullish on the current fortunes of the Halo franchise, and took time to detail the upcoming single player-focused campaign expansion for Halo Wars 2. Called ‘Awakening the Nightmare’, the expansion will introduce the Flood as a new enemy type and will be set after the game’s main campaign and the other upcoming two-mission story extension, ‘Operation: SPEARBREAKER’. Unlike the latter content, however, ‘Awakening the Nightmare’ will not be a part of the game’s Season Pass and will cost USD$20 when it releases in autumn 2017.

Before then, however, the game will add four new Leader characters, as well as the aforementioned ‘Operation: SPEARBREAKER’ expansion, all by the end of August.

OnlySP’s Dylan Warman was unimpressed with Halo Wars 2’s similarities to 2009’s original, calling it a “decent game [that] does little to distance itself from its predecessor.” Similarly, Nick Calandra was let down by the last mainline entry in the series, Halo 5: Guardians, saying that the campaign “is fun to play through,” but hamstrung by a disappointing narrative.

OnlySP will continue to follow the development of the Halo series, so for more news on it and much else from the world of single-player gaming, be sure to bookmark the site and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.
