Why, Halo there. Were you hoping for some more info on Halo 4‘s campaign? Then you came to the right place. Details on the campign have been recently leaked. You could say they made a… flood! Yes, onto the details now.

The story of Halo 4 is set 4 years after the notable ending to Halo 3. Master Chief has spent that time floating in space, sealed cryogenically aboard the spaceship Forward Unto Dawn. Of course, his AI partner Cortana has been very much awake, and she’s starting meet the end of her 7 year life cycle. Nevertheless, she’s been busy at work redesigning his suit, including an updated HUD interface. The interface is specifically designed to be more immersive in Halo 4 and will include touches that make it seem your screen is actually the chief’s visor. The HUD will even shake slightly during combat.

Master Chief told Cortana to wake him up if she ever needed him. This appears to be the case when a ship belonging to the Covenant attacks Forward Unto Dawn; a strange occurrence considering the humans formed a truce with them at the end of Halo 3. This will undoubtedly be the opening of the game. The Chief is called upon to defend the frigate, and he does so successfully, but not before it is sucked in to a Dyson Sphere-like mechanism and it crashes on the planet inside, where the rest of the adventure will occur.

The sphere-like word is called Requiem, and it acted as a sort of shelter for the Forerunners after they set off the first Halo rings. It’s here where Master Chief will encounter the true villains of the game. The new enemies are reported to be “elevated in terms of their intelligence and complexity relative to the Covenant.” They will act very differently from the Covenant and Flood enemies fought in the past and the player will fight more powerful and unique varieties of them as the game progresses. It’s unknown if any Forerunners (the creators and eventual purgers of the galaxy) will be present, but considering this is their hiding place, one should not rule out the possibility of seeing some eventually. Concept art of Forerunner armor can be seen below; whether its official or not is yet to be determined. a squid-like creature has also been spotted in some concept art, but its true purpose remains a mystery.

The design of the planet resembles a Dyson Sphere, meaning that it will essentially be an organic planet encased within a mechanical shell. Throughout the game you’ll see giant mechanical pillars falling from the sky onto the organic planet. It will be interesting to see if the story touches upon themes of nature vs. technology. You’ll also see unusual rock formations, mechanical buildings, and other phenomenon which you can get glimpses of in the concept art below. The scale of everything is impressive, to say the very least.

It must be also be said that the relationship between Master Chief and Cortana will be emphasized. She’s obviously dying due to her short lifespan and will be something that Chief has to consider and look after for the entire journey. The multiplayer will take place in a virtual reality simulation aboard a ship called The Infinity, which the marines on board use to train. It’s likely that those same marines will be sent to assist the Chief on Requiem. One video showed Chief inside a Warthog vehicle, and I seriously doubt the Forerunners left one there for him. The campaign can be played cooperatively as per Bungie tradition, with 4 players able to take the journey simultaneously.

There you have it. The start of something wonderful. The campaign is looking promising so far and looks to be an evolution of the typical Halo experience. Stay tuned for more details on Halo 4 in the foreseeable and forerunnable future. It’s good to have you back, Chief.
