God of War (Sony Santa Monica)

God of War 2018 was first planned to take place in the deserts of Egypt, according to Sony Santa Monica Studio.

Cory Barlog, the game’s creative director, shared plenty of interesting details at this year’s Devcom. During the beginning stages of development, the team was split on two different mythological settings: Egyptian and Norse.

Eventually, Barlog opted for Norse mythology, but not before some concept art was drawn up.

Though the dry setting never came to fruition, hope remains for the future.

God of War receives its New Game Plus update today and is one of 2018’s most critically acclaimed titles. OnlySP’s Ben Newman described the game as having “the greatest amount of immersion ever witnessed in a video game.”

Michael Cripe
Michael fell into the OnlySP team toward the end of 2017. You’ll mostly catch his work over in the news area, but that doesn’t mean he won’t dip into the features section every now and then. For him, gaming doesn’t get much better than Metal Gear Solid and Super Mario Sunshine. Though he is a die-hard Nintendo fan, he grew up on PlayStation.
