Gears Tactics

The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson has confirmed that Gears Tactics will launch on Xbox One.

Until now, the game had only been announced for PC (advertised as a “true Gears of War PC experience” at its E3 2018 reveal).

Fergusson dropped the news on Twitter (via Gematsu) in response to a fan query. He also confirmed that Splash Damage, the team that handled the multiplayer components of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 4, is heading development on the spin-off.

For those unfamiliar, Gears Tactics acts as a prequel to the series, taking place 12 years before the first game. Unlike previous entries, it will be a turn-based strategy game designed from the ground up for PC.

While that may raise concerns for the quality of the console version, games such as XCOM and Valkyria Chronicles have shown how well the genre can work on a controller.

Gears Tactics currently has no firm release date. However, the next entry in the mainline series, Gears 5, is set to release on September 10 on Xbox One and PC.
