According to a source close to Polygon, a remastered edition of the original Gears of War is currently in the works for the Xbox One at Splash Damage Studios, the developers of Brink and Dirty Bomb.

Polygon says the updated version of Gears of War will include, “updated visuals and reworked cutscenes, courtesy of animation studio Plastic Wax.” The source apparently showed stills of the opening cinematic of the game (see below) that featured the updated visuals.

More than likely, the game has been ported to the Unreal Engine 4 for the remastered edition. That’s just my own speculation though so don’t take that as a confirmation.

We’ve heard rumors about this potential remaster a couple times now, but this essentially confirms what Shinobi has been telling us since November of last year. Xbox One owners will have Gears of War on their console this holiday season.

E3’s just around the corner so keep a close eye out for any further Gears of War announcements by following OnlySP on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. And still no Windows version. I find this hilarious now that consoles and computers have more in common now than ever before.
