Randy Pitchford, Gearbox CEO, was on the Nerdist podcast recently to talk about the process of making games, how they create them and also the possible future of gaming generally.
Whilst on the podcast Pitchford mentioned a new IP for release on next-gen consoles but failed to go into details. With all of Gearbox’s success with Borderlands and Brother in Arms chances are we’re looking at another great shooter from the studio that found fame with the aforementioned titles.
Also, Pitchford confirmed that Borderlands 2 DLC is far from over even though all of the Season Pass packs have finally launched. “Everyone was under the expectations that those would be the 4 DLCs and that’s it…. We are going to do more, we are going to do some other things… So if you’re a Borderlands 2 fan you don’t have to be afraid that that’s the end of it”. The last piece of DLC to arrive for Borderlands 2 was Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. This DLC took the form of you playing out a DnD game with Tiny Tina as your dungeon master.
So with more Borderlands 2 DLC and a new IP on the way gearbox seems to have a lot on it’s plate right now, lets just hope their new franchise turns out less like Aliens: Colonial Marines and more like the fun and zany Borderlands that most have come to love.
