Bulkhead Interactive recently revealed a new first-person puzzle game called The Turing Test, which is due out in August for XBox One and PC. The announcement came with a dramatic trailer, which you can view below.
The premise of the game seems to revolve around a new discovery of life on Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. The trailer doesn’t reveal much about this discovery, only that the life humanity discovered was “simple,” “elegant,” and powerful…so of course humanity grows frightened of this discovery and now, the crew – including the main character, whom you will be controlling, named Ava Turing – is “400 million miles from home with no hope.”
Given the fact that a “Turing Test” (created in 1950 by Alan Turing) is a test used to determine whether an artificial intelligence can exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to or beyond that of a human (thanks Google!), it’s a pretty safe bet to imagine that this life they discovered is intelligent.
Here’s what Bulkhead has to say about the game:
The Turing Test is a first person puzzler from the developers of ‘Pneuma: Breath of Life’ that explores the phenomena of consciousness and challenges the meaning of human intuition. Take control of Ava Turing, an engineer for the International Space Agency (ISA), and progress through a narrated story of introspection and morality whilst uncovering the hidden mysteries of Europa. Delve into The Turing Test’s human interaction puzzles and arm yourself with logical and methodical thinking. Take on tests designed in such a way that only a human could solve them. In an evolving story based on mankind’s inherent need to explore, protect and survive; players search deeper into Europa’s ice crusted core and transcend the line between man and machine.
The puzzle-solving gameplay revolves around the use of the “Energy Manipulation Tool (EMT),” which transfers power from one source to another.
Power up and take control of artificially intelligent machines, manipulate giant structures and solve complex tasks; all woven into a multi-layered story based on the human struggle for control. The Turing Test can only be experienced through the interactive medium of video games.
