If a new image making the digital rounds is legit, then it seems the rumors we read about at the start of the year are true: Egypt is the setting of the next Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed: Empire.

The “leaked” image, which you can find at the bottom of this post, is promising at this early of a stage, and appears to be an off-screen picture of a prototype demo pause screen. What do you know, wouldn’t that be a strange coincidence that there’s a pyramid-looking shape in the prototype demo screen of a game set in Egypt? Not-so-inconspicuously tucked into the upper-right-hand corner of the screen are the words we’ve all been waiting for since earlier this year: Assassin’s Creed: Empire.

Why have we been waiting to see this title? Because we previously reported on exactly that name from what we thought was just a rumor post on Kotaku by an author with credible sources, which we found after doing research following a NeoGAF post by an insider who claimed the next game’s setting would be Egypt and take AC in a new Witcher-like direction. We had already known that there would (probably) be no main AC game this year, but we recently found out that it might not be ready for release until 2018.

If the Kotaku rumor post is true, then the name “Empire” is only a codename for now, unless this off-screen picture means that Empire is now the official title name. We’ll just have to wait and see.
